An Interview With Dr. Stephens, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Arlington

What is the recovery period for BOTOX?

Patients treated with Botox on one day will be able to return to normal activities within several hours.

How long do the results of BOTOX last?

In general, you can expect the first treatment with Botox to last about three months. However, with repeated treatments the results last longer, as the muscles begin to atrophy from disuse. Many of my patients now come in about every six months for their Botox.

How much does BOTOX cost?

It depends on how much is used for a treatment. This is turn depends on how many muscle areas are treated, and how bulky the muscles are at the time of treatment. The range is between $250 and $550.

How are Botox Cosmetic and Dysport used cosmetically?

Both products are used to treat overly active muscles of the forehead, in particular the "frowning muscles" which are located between the eyebrows. In my experience, Botox Cosmetic has more reliably achieved the desired results. Dysport sometimes gave good results, but there seemed to be more variability.

What is a Botox party?

A Botox party is a bad idea! It is really important for each person who is to be treated with Botox to have his or her medical history properly evaluated by the physician who is to treat him or her. That cannot be well done in a social setting, especially if alcohol is served.

How safe is Botox?

It is extremely safe, if used by a well-trained physician.

How many treatments will be needed for botox?

A single treatment should give three months or more of the desired results. Long term results require two to four treatments per year. If treatment is halted, the muscles will eventually recover completely.

Who should perform a BOTOX procedure?

In my opinion, this should only be done by a properly trained plastic surgeon. There are some risks if the Botox is injected improperly, in the wrong concentration, or into blood vessels.

What is a Botox Injection or botox shot?

A Botox injection is a means of minimizing facial wrinkles caused by overactive muscles.

Who is the ideal candidate for BOTOX?

Anyone who has moderate to severe wrinkles caused by muscle activity.

How does BOTOX work?

The active ingredient, botulinum toxin, blocks nerve impulses to the muscles treated. In this way it prevents them from being able to contract, and thereby stops the skin from being repeatedly folded on itself.
