An Interview With Dr. Adams, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Boston

What is a Botox treatment or botox procedure?

Botox® is injected into the areas of wrinkles, and works by reducing the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines.

Who is the ideal candidate for BOTOX?

Almost anyone with facial wrinkles are good candidates for Botox, as it's well tolerated by most patients. However, Botox is not always the right, or best treatment. It's important to consult with your plastic surgeon to discuss your goals prior to be treated.

Who should perform a BOTOX procedure?

If administered incorrectly, Botox can be a dangerous procedure. Only a well qualified plastic surgeon, or specifically trained dermatologist should perform a Botox injection. For instance, I have performed over 4,000 Botox procedures, and use only safe, effective, FDA approved Botox® Cosmetic by Allergan.

How safe is Botox?

Botox is very safe when administered by a highly qualified and trained plastic surgeon. Only safe, effective, FDA approved Botox® Cosmetic by Allergan, or Medicis' Dysport should be used.

What is a Botox Injection or botox shot?

Botox® Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin A) is made from a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a safe, effective, time proven way to diminish the wrinkles on the forehead, around eyes, lips and neck. In addition to Allergan's Botox, Medicis' Aesthetics Dysport is also a purified form of Botulinum Toxin A. However, it may work slightly faster than Botox, and last longer.

How many treatments will be needed for botox?

Typically one treatment per area treated is sufficient.

How long do the results of BOTOX last?

Results usually last between 4 - 8 months for Botox, and may last as long as 1 year for Dysport.

How much does BOTOX cost?

Cost varies depending on how many areas are treated.

What is the recovery period for BOTOX?

The Botox procedure typically takes 15 minutes or less, and benefits typically last 4-8 months. There is a 1 day recovery time.
