An Interview With Dr. Bentkover, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Worcester

Who should perform a BOTOX procedure?

It is best performed by a facial plastic surgeron, general plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Some practices have nurse injectors, physician s assistants or nurse practioners who do injections. Some people get injections in malls without physician supervision. We recommend that you be treated by a physician.

What is the recovery period for BOTOX?

There is really no recovery period. The areas of the injections may be a bit swollen for a day or less. On occassion there may be a small black on blue spot that could teke 10 days or so to go away.

How long do the results of BOTOX last?

In most people about 3-4 months.

How many treatments will be needed for botox?

One treatment every 3-4 months.

How are Botox Cosmetic and Dysport used cosmetically?

They decrease muscle acitivity and thereby decrease wrinkles caused by the muscles injected.

What is a Botox Injection or botox shot?

Botox is a brand name for a botulinum toxin. This toxin is a chemical made by a bacteria that can cause botulism. In small, controlled doses, however, it is safe to use this to immobilize some of the muscles of the face. If these muscles cause creases, those creases may look less pronouced. It is injected with a very tiny needle and causes minimal discomfort. Dyport is another brand. It has a slightly smaller molecule and essentially the same affect.

How much does BOTOX cost?

Prices vary depending on the experience of the injector and how many units are use. To treat the area between the brows, called the glabella, you can expect to have 20-25 units and pay $300 - 400. Some pracitces, like ours, have discounts for patients who get regulary scheduled injections.

How does BOTOX work?

The toxin blocks the release of a substance secreted by nerves to stimulate a muscle. This substance is called acetyl choline.

How safe is Botox?

Very safe in the appropriate doses. The most common complications are headache and ptosis of the eyelid. Ptosis is when the eyelid droops a bit after the treatment. This can last 6-8 weeks but is very uncommon.

Who is the ideal candidate for BOTOX?

Someone with moderate creases between the brows or in the crows foot area.
